Change is needed for life

I don’t usually save these. This is really the title of the sermon for this week. It’s not actually a Godvertisement in the traditional sense. But I liked this one anyway.

It says change is part of life, man. Get used to it! Quit yer whinin’ and start adapting.

I took a leadership course where they explained that this is the difference between leaders and managers. Leaders embrace change and show others how to adapt. Managers resist change and try to keep the flock from wandering. The interesting part is when you try to manager a leader.

Weekend check list:
Saturday: Change clock
Sunday: Worship

Daylight Saving Time

It must really be a problem for churches. I mean, we change the clock on Sunday’s so everyone will be used to it before they go to work on Monday. If we changed it on Saturday we might miss a football game or something. Sunday seems perfect. Unless you’re a church. Then I’ll be people come late to service (or early in the fall). Unless you have a gentle Godvertisement out front the week before.

If you walk with the lord, you will never be out of step!

If you walk with the lord, you will never be out of step!

I like the humor in this one, but I think the message is more holier-than-thou than instructive. Sort of like “I’m better because I’m godly.” But I guess that is the message. You can be better, too, if you’re godly.

Huh. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe people are smarter than I think. Maybe it will reach them. What do you think?

Don’t give up! Even Moses was once a basket case.

Don’t give up! Even Moses was once a basket case.

Ho ho! Fun-ny! A basket case! Hee-hee! :-)

This is the sort of sign that grabs your eye. Does it pull people into the church? I don’t know. But it makes them think. And if they’re frazzled, scrambled, fried, ritalin-junkies like all of us today are, then it offers them solace. And that, to me, is one of the most important functions of the church.

If you pause to think, you’ll have cause to thank.

If you pause to think, you’ll have cause to thank.

Thanksgiving, 2002

This sign reminds us to be thankful. But it also implores us to be contemplative about our position and blessings. It’s a reminder to be thankful, but it’s also a reminder of why we should be thankful.

I think this preacher must be nice to hear.
