A smile is a curve that can set things straight
A smile is a curve that can set things straight

We all can get into grumpy moods from time to time. Sometimes it’s not even a bad mood, but we still forget to smile at our neighbors, friends and family. (more…)

The Jesus fish

The Jesus fish
The Jesus fish

The fish has long been the symbol of Christians for many reasons. It was used as a badge to indicate that one was a Christian. And now the badge has progressed to our cars. I guess it’s like the AAA symbol, too. It tells others that we’re ok. We’ve already been saved.

I heard a story the other day about a man whose car had broken down on the side of the road. A woman stopped to help the man and wound up taking him to a service station so he could hire a tow truck. The man commented that she shouldn’t pick up strangers like that, but he’s awfully glad she did. She said, “I usually don’t, but I saw your fish sticker on the car. So I knew it would be ok.” Hey! It really is just like AAA.

I don’t mind people telling me about their faith on their cars. They’re not trying to sell me anything. But I think businesses that use the Jesus fish in their ads, logos and signs are going too far. Are they using Jesus to sell me their plumbing supplies? Or are they simply trying to wear their badge proudly? Are all their employees also wearing it?

I don’t usually patronize these businesses. Do you?

When all else fails, read the instructions!

When all else fails, read the instructions!
When all else fails, read the instructions!

What a great mobile Godvertisement! It’s already a humorous axiom, and now it’s applied to the Bible and faith. So often we try to solve problems on our own without God’s wisdom. When we stray from the Bible’s teachings we are liable to fail, as this bumper plate suggests.

We should have read the instructions from the beginning, of course. That much is obvious. And there the humor comes full circle and slaps us in the face. Always follow God’s word; then you won’t get into these messes to begin with!

Love is stronger than death

Love is stronger than death
Love is stronger than death

This simple prose speaks to us on so many levels.
God’s love can carry us safely across death’s door to the afterlife.
Our love for our family can carry them in our hearts even after their passing.
Love for life, family and self is what keeps us alive (away from death).

This line has more meanings than words. That’s the mark of a good slogan. God must be pleased.

God wants full custody, not just a weekend visit

God wants full custody, not just a weekend visit
God wants full custody, not just a weekend visit

It’s sad that divorce is so common in this country that it even makes for funny Godvertising. We can all appreciate that a weekend visit is not enough time for a parent to spend with a child, especially at the exclusion of the other parent. But this is what so many children are stuck with these days.
