You have to wonder... Some think God is dead and Elvis is alive!
You have to wonder… Some think God is dead and Elvis is alive!

This reminds me of another funny tagline:

God is dead. — Nietzsche
Nietzsche is dead. — God

It’s funny, even though Nietzsche didn’t really say it.

Anyway, Elvis has left the building, and God is still alive. The incredulousness of this message — “Some people are so crazy they think Elvis is still alive!” — makes sense to a Christian. To atheists, of course, this is laughable. To them, the incredulousness comes when they hear that “some people are so crazy they think Jesus is still alive!” Thankfully, atheists are not the audience for this ad. They are, rather, the butt of its joke. :-)

Hey — Didja ever notice that

  • “Elvis” is an anagram for “Lives”?
  • “devil” backwards is “lived”?
  • that “Satan” and “Santa” are never in the same room at the same time?

Dark clouds bring showers of blessings
Dark clouds bring showers of blessings

Another in the “every cloud has a silver lining” series. Nice pun in this one. There’s all sorts of ways one might interpret the “dark clouds” metaphor, but I won’t try to go there. Just try to remember to look for the positive outcome in every situation.

You can’t change the past, but you can learn from it and you can learn to appreciate it. God loves an optimist. :-)

Get it? Get it? Son? Light? Sunlight?

Is there no end to the cleverness of these signs? :-)

Too much complaining leaves little time for doing
Too much complaining leaves little time for doing

Yikes! How many people do you know who love to gripe but don’t ever do anything? I work with people like this. They’re jaded. I try not to become more like them and set an example for newcomers. It’s a terrible trap to fall into.

Eye of God — as seen by Hubble

Saturday, October 2nd, 2004

Recently a composite photo of a nebula has been making its way around the internet. Its promulgators are calling it “The Eye of God”. About.com lists it on their Urban Legends page with some additional details.

I thought you all might want to see this awesome picture taken by the
NASA Hubble Telescope.

The Eye of God

Now, that image is pretty impressive. And it is even awesome. It is inspiring. It was sent to me by a coworker. It inspired me to send her back this message:

Subject: RE: EYE OF GOD
Where’s the rest of God? I searched around and found out this eye of His is hurtling through space, disembodied ever since the Big Bang. Here’s a side view:

(The idea for this “big bang remnants” line may have come to me from a book by Scott Adams, which I did read some years ago.)

After this bit I couldn’t resist digging just a little bit more. It turns out that God’s Debris really is scattered all over the Universe.
