Our Father said to come Home
Our Father said to come Home

Clever, this sign. “Our Father said to come Home” is a nostalgic phrase from most of our childhoods. But here “Our Father” is God. “Our” reminds us that He is your god, too. “Home” is a draw to Heaven. And the Church presents itself as the path, the earthly instantiation of God’s House.

I love when a sign has this much subtlety in so few words!

Is your religion something you carry with you reluctantly? Or is it the mechanism by which you guide your life?

Learn to forgive!
Learn to forgive!

Forgiveness is divine, to paraphrase Alexander Pope. God forgives us in advance. Humans can learn to forgive, but it is not automatic. We must learn to forgive. And then we must practice forgiveness lest we forget how.

Try it. You’ll feel a new peace come over you, whether it’s divine or not.

I lived two blocks from this church for 10 years and they never had anything interesting on their sign. It’s nice to see them putting up a Godvertisement for once.

Don't point a finger; lend a hand!
Don’t point a finger; lend a hand!

We are all our brothers’ keepers, and we should be helping others when they are in need. Too often we find ourselves searching for the one to blame for this mess in the first place. Wouldn’t our efforts be better directed by helping to find a solution instead of a scapegoat?

fwiw - I took this photo about a week after Hurricane Katrina.
