God grades on the cross, not the curve

God grades on the cross, not the curve

There’s more in this message than most will see, I think. The cross is an easy reference, and “grading on the curve” is a well-known axiom. But what does it mean?

“God grades on the cross” means that the only way into heaven is through Jesus. All Christians know this, and this is just a reminder.

“… not the curve” means that it’s not enough to be a good person. How good can you possibly be? Can you be as good as God? Of course not. So “good” is relative. Relative to whom? Other humans? That would work if God graded on the curve. But it’s not good enough to be “one of the better people”. In fact, it’s not even the top requirement. Firstly you must accept Jesus as your savior. Find God through Him.

Because God grades on the cross, see? Not the curve.

Maybe the subtlety of this sign will make it stick in people’s minds. It’s a bit ominous that it’s in a cemetery, though.

so if get you right, what you’re saying is that not only is leading a good life not important, but since good is reletive it’s even less important..
and that the only thing that is important is accepting jesus as your saviour?

it seems to me that even if god grades on the cross, that jesus would like people to lead good lives, or else all his teachings were for naught…

    dunno.

You should be as good a person as you can be. With Jesus in your heart, you surely will. But it is not goodness which gets you into heaven; it is knowing Jesus. So sayeth scripture.

again i’m thinking: that it doesn’t make sense to be a good person, if all it takes to get into the big party at the end is to ‘know jesus’.

i KNOW a lot of people who i don’t think are good people…
doesn’t really help to make the world a better place though…

guess that’s why i’m going to the burning place.
    :)
even though i lead a good and noble life that i think the big J would be proud of..

i suppose it just sucks that dedicating your life to being noble and true, and spreading the word of goodness doesn’t mean squat.

you’d think by ‘knowing jesus’ would mean that you’d be a good person…but it’s not the case in reality..
so many people who claim to know the guy, are really poor reflections of his teachings, while a buddish monk who dedicates himself to prayer and a life a selflessness goes to hell…

alas, a hard topic, not to be decided in the comments section.
    peace.
