Godvertising

Ok… I’ve had www.Godvertising.com for a couple of years now, but I haven’t taken the time to do much with it. So this week I worked in the blog so I can more easily share my Godvertising photos with you guys. And then someone asked me “why?”

Why? Because it’s interesting. It’s funny. It’s inspirational. And it’s apparently American. I want to know more about it. Do they Godvertise in other countries? Do they Godvertise in Oregon?

But mostly because it’s funny.

I live in the southern United States. We have a LOT of churches down here. This leads to some competition for members and some plain old fun slogans.

There’s a church on highway 431 in Phenix City, AL that usually has something clever to say. My lovely wife and I would get chuckle just about every time we passed there on our way to Florida. Like the one that said “Free trip. Details inside.” Get it? Subtle, clever, brief, and apparently not original.

Then there was “Will that be smoking or non?” I guess that’s funnier here where we still allow smoking in restaurants.

So one day darling wife says “I’m going to start a photo collection of those things.” And so we did. Well, I did, mostly. I usually have the camera with me, so I wind up taking the shots. I take a lot of them. Some of them you may never see (boring, long or pointless). But most are the kind of sign that make me laugh out loud, turn the car around and go take the shot.

And that’s why. I mean, I guess I’d like to think I’m helping to bring someone solace, inspiration or relief. But I also hope I get a good laugh from some muslims, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and atheists.

Why? Because it’s funny.
