You have to get out of the boat to walk on water
This sign could be confusing to non-Christians. It sounds like it is spurring us on to take action. “You can’t change the world sitting on the couch.” Something like that.
But it seems to also be encouraging us to be more Christ-like. Is that even possible? God doesn’t expect us to walk on water, does he? Isn’t that the metaphorical definition of us as sinners and Jesus as pure?
But this sign is simply telling us to put our faith in God. We can’t walk on water (as God asked Peter to do) if we do not put our faith in Him first by getting out of the boat. It’s easier to have faith if we follow God’s example, I suppose. In that sense, Peter’s faith was handed to him. But I digress…
